Manipulate the Scoreboard

At first glance, Binary Defender seems like a pretty straightforward arcade shooter. The twist comes with the interaction the player has with the score. The score displays in binary, and the player may click on a '1' in the score, thus changing that digit to a zero and gaining a piercing shot that goes through multiple enemies. The player thus trades power for score.

Use the environment to your advantage

Picture
The player gets one SMASH ability every round that effectively clears a lane of enemies. The player is immune to SMASHing. This makes for a solid last ditch effort as well as a way to clear a path to escape towards.

Survive for as Long as You Can!

The game ends when the player loses all of his/her health. In true arcade style, there are high scores to be had and bragging rights to be won.The constant conflict in the game will be whether to sacrifice score for power and survive longer, or try to maximize score while maybe not making it to the later rounds.
